DEPARTMENT OF INNER-CITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE:

PLEASE READ

As a First Responder Organization we are the first-level professionals who are trained to respond and handle emergency situations. We work alongside firefighters, police officers and other emergency personnel.  This line of work is often very stressful, quick paced, yet rewarding, so first responders must be able to remain calm under pressure and think quickly.  Possessing excellent problem-solving and communication skills are also very important.

Previous training and skill-sets in the medical, rescue, emergency and/or outdoor adventure pursuits is a plus but not required.  We do offer many training classes free of charge with other classes given at a discounted fee. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) by prospective members:

How often do EROs meet?
EROs, at a minimum, after their basic training, will meet every other Tuesday plus selected weekends. This is required to be a specialist rescue technician or medic on our national or international team.  However, some people are full members as part of our Search and Rescue (SAR) Engineers and can come out as little as once every two to three months.  Naturally Primary Rescue teams need to train as a team more frequently than that – depending on their positions as Rescue Tech / Medics.

What time commitments are expected from Non-Operational Members?
The Non-Operational Support Section (NOSS) does not have any minimum attendance or commitment level. Basically they commit to help EROs in the furtherance of its aims and are proactive in doing so. They may provide help with events, fundraisers or logistical support. They do not respond as rescuers.

What time commitments are expected from Operational Members?
This is easier to answer if you first consider what we do.
We provide a very high standard of response during emergencies and disasters. Members are required to attain a minimum standard of training and then maintain a minimum attendance depending on their position and level with the Department. You can discuss this in more detail with our Membership Officers.

Do members pay for their essential Operational Training?
No. Members receive their essential operational training for FREE. They can also access other specialized and non-mandatory training, equipment and services as a benefit of membership, for a discounted rate.

* Why do Applicants pay an application fee?
The Department receives many applications to become ERO’s, many of whom are not so serious about their commitment. The Department incurs many costs in processing applications and background checks. We want serious applicants only please.

Do members pay a membership fee?
Yes. There is a extremely low monthly which contributes toward their costs or training and membership.  All Members are required to pay. If there were any hardships, these will be addressed on an individual basis.
